Porcelain Laminate Veneers
What Are Porcelain Laminate Veneers?

Do you have worn, discolored or damaged teeth? Are you afraid to smile? Do you wish you had the same smile as a friend or neighbor?

Well, now you can! Over the past few years the dental profession has devised a simple, relatively inexpensive way to repair damaged teeth in just two quick visits. Much like replacing a lost fingernail, porcelain laminates can be used to correct ugly tooth color, chipped teeth and even extreme tooth rotation. Not a replacement for orthodontics but a substitute for those that do not want to wear braces.

The Process

On your first visit, your teeth will be reduced by about .5 millimeters. This procedure is not reversible. If you are looking for a reversible cosmetic procedure take a look at Lumineerstm. Once your teeth are prepared, an impression will be taken and then sent to a cosmetic dental laboratory for the porcelain laminates veneers to be made based upon our detailed prescription.

Temporary veneers will be placed between visits so 1) there will be no sensitivity and 2) you can get used to your new look. If while wearing your temporary veneers you find anything you would like to change, just let us know. Think of this as a "Veneer Test Drive".

From a few days to a week or so later, we can place your laminates. It's just that easy!

Since porcelain is a totally glazed surface, laminates that stain can be cleaned in our office during you recare visit. Porcelain laminates can give you back that smile you have always wanted!

Dental Implants

Before an implant can be placed we will need to do a thorough diagnosis and treatment planning. This normally involves a full series of x-rays, a panoramic x-ray, possibly a dental CtScan, study cast impressions and a clinical examination. Once it has been decided that an implant is the treatment of choice, an incision is made in the gum and an implant, shaped much like a screw, is placed in the jaw bone.

Approximately 3 - 6 months later the implant, which has been submerged below the gum, will have integrated into bone (Osseointegration is the name of the process) and will be uncovered. Either a temporary cap or a healing cap will be placed at that time. Fig. 1 We will also take impressions for the final restoration.

After a period of time we will proceed to complete the final restoration.

Is it Painful?
Normally the procedure is no more uncomfortable than minor gum surgery. You may experience some small amount of swelling or some other normal result of surgery. These situations can normally be easily managed with simple analgesics.

How long does it take for them to work?

Implants placed in the upper jaw need about 6 - 8 months to heal due to the relatively soft nature of upper jaw bone. Lower jaw implants need only 3-4 months to heal due to the more dense nature of lower jaw bone.

What are the success rates?

Success rates obviously vary from individual to individual and even within the same person relative to the type of bone, location and general health of the individual. Smoking is a definite problem when implant healing is concerned. Osseointegration, the latest form of implant placement, has been done for over twenty years and boasts very high success rates in healthy, non-smoking patients.

Should you have any additional questions please either email or call. We will be happy to help in any way we can to assist you in making the appropriate treatment decision.

Am I A Candidate?

Today there are relatively few contraindications to implant placement. Some of these include uncontrolled diabetes, blood dyscrasias (bleeding problems), autoimmune diseases and smoking. Smokers tend to have poor healing ability and therefore it is preferred that implant patients be non-smokers. For other contraindications we will need to discuss this further during your pre-treatment consultation.
